DAHLIA GRACE EVANS
Dahlia Evans is a second-year graduate student in the Clinical Adolescent Psychology doctoral program at Prairie View A&M University, expected to graduate in 2026. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica and her Master of Science in Juvenile Forensic Psychology at Prairie View A&M University. Her current thesis explores the role of awareness and exposure to mental illness as a mediator between implicit bias towards mental illness among prospective law enforcement professionals. Dahlia's primary research interests include culture, diversity, mental health stigma, juvenile delinquency, and risk/resiliency among Caribbean populations.
CHARLOTTE HILLEGASS
Charlotte Hillegass graduated with a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at Sam Houston State University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Art from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Charlotte is currently seeking research and adjunct positions. She is interested in the mediating effects of cultural factors on trauma, resilience, and attitudes towards mental health help-seeking behavior, specifically for underserved populations.
ALEXUS UHL
Alexus Uhl graduated with an M.A. from the Clinical Psychology master's program at Sam Houston State University in August 2022. She received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Sam Houston State University in Spring 2020. Alexus is now working as a Program Therapist at an eating recovery center. Her primary research interests include the effects and influences of mental health on adolescents and young adults, along with looking at how demographic factors can influence the mental health of individuals (i.e., race, gender, socioeconomic status).
ANNETTE ADDO-YOBO
Annette Addo-Yobo graduated with a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University in 2022. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and child Learning & Development (double major) with a minor in Criminology from The University of Texas at Dallas. Annette now works as a Psychological Associate at UT Southwestern Medical Center/Children's Health in Dallas. Her primary research interests include examining the impact of childhood maltreatment, parent attachment, discrimination, and coping mechanisms on the development of delinquent behavior among at-risk youth.
BETSY E. GALICIA
Betsy E. Galicia is a fourth-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program. She graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Houston and a M.A. in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Her thesis was on the protective role of cultural values on posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in Latinx immigrant youth. Betsy's research interests include human trafficking, immigration, trauma, risk and protective factors in psychopathology (i.e., depression, anxiety, PTSD), Latinx and historically underrepresented populations, and culture/diversity.
ALICE LIMA
Alice Lima is a first-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. Her primary research interest is in understanding how minority stress plays a role in mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, addictions, tobacco and alcohol dependence in minority and in underserved populations. She is also interested in the relationship between minority stress and health outcomes.
JASMINE PHILLIPS
Jasmine Phillips is a second-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Virginia Wesleyan University and her Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology from The George Washington University. Her primary research interests include historical/generational trauma, depression, and the effect of cultural attitudes in minority populations on responses to mental health and deviant behavior.
GRACE BOLAND
Grace Boland is a third-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology: Criminology & Law Enforcement from The University of Akron. Her primary research interests include trauma assessment and treatment among the law enforcement and offender populations, specifically looking at race and gender interactions
MEGAN DEBRABANDER
Megan DeBrabander graduated with an MA in Clinical Psychology back in 2021. She received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Spanish from Adrian College. Her research interests center on adolescent mental health, prevention and intervention strategies, trauma and PTSD, Latinx populations, and culture/diversity. Megan is now working as a Bilingual Residential Youth Specialist at therapeutic residential homes for refugees and unaccompanied minors. Moving on from SHSU, Megan has been working with underserved communities, facilitating groups, working in organizations, and has published her first manuscript "Migration experiences of Central American youth: Developing a new measure" in Psychiatry Research.
AMANDA FLAKE
Amanda Flake is a graduate of Sam Houston State University's Clinical Psychology master’s program with a M.A. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with honors from Armstrong State University in Savannah, GA. Amanda is now a Mental Health Professional at Gainsville State School. Her research interests include the assessment and treatment of trauma in underserved populations, primarily incarcerated individuals.
KARLA GUZMAN
Karla Guzman is a first-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology Masters Program. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology from Sam Houston State University. Her primary research interests include psychopathology in minority populations, specifically juveniles, and its relationship with stress, trauma, socioeconomic status and family systems. She is interested in exploring the multi-finality of mainly mood, personality and eating disorders as well as the differential pathways that lead to delinquency or criminal behavior. Moreover, she is focused on helping develop innovative preventive, coping methods and examining the role of resilience in early childhood.
JUSTIN PRICE
Justin Price is a second-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology master's program. He received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology with honors (Summa Cum Laude) in 2018 from SHSU. His primary research interests include understanding differences between marginalized and non-marginalized groups in and out of prison.
DEBBIE TORRES
Debbie Torres is a second-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program. She graduated with a B.S. in Biology (Chemistry Minor) from Texas Tech University and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Her thesis explored the predictability of psychosocial risk factors regarding opioid usage after spine surgery. Broadly, Debbie’s research interests include behavioral medicine, health psychology, and intervention outcomes. Specifically, she is interested in exploring biopsychosocial risk factors - related to treatment, pain, and prescription medication - among underrepresented populations in medical settings.
GABRIELE TRUPP
Gabriele Trupp is a Clinical Psychologist who graduated from Sam Houston State University's Clinical Psychology PHD program in August of 2022. She received her master's degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College from Criminal Justice and her bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan. She is currently completing postdoctoral fellowship, working at the Western State Hospital, and working at the Institute for Law, Psychiatry, & Public Policy at the University of Virginia.

Jeeva Babu attended the lab from 2017-2019, graduated from the Clinical Psychology master’s program at SHSU in the spring of 2019, and received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Houston. Jeeva is now set to graduate from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in May 2024 with a Psy.D in Health Service Psychology.

Blaine Cordova graduated from the Clinical Psychology master’s program in the spring of 2019. He received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Sam Houston State University.

Christina Engelken graduated from the Clinical Psychology master's program at SHSU in the spring of 2019. She received her Bachelor of Science in psychology and sociology from Kansas State University. Christina is now attending an Applied Psychology doctoral program at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Erica Fuller
Erica Fuller is a graduate of the Clinical Psychology master's program. She attended Kansas State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Criminology. Erica is interested in the implications of trauma in forensic settings, specifically the ramifications it can have for both incarcerated individuals and law enforcement officials
Jazmine Rivera
Jazmine Rivera is a Counseling master's student with a focus in Clinical Mental Health. She received her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Human Services from SHSU. Her primary research interest follows mental health interventions within Latinx communities. Additionally, Jazmine is interested in exploring experiences of minoritized students within post-secondary institutions.
